Today I am grateful for the slow Wednesday morning. Una is on holiday this week, so we all slept later than usual since she doesn’t have to get out of the door at 8am, had a long breakfast and when Mark went to work the three of us got on the bikes and went to town, ran some errands and had ice cream at 10am in the morning. It’s never too early for ice cream, right?

Today I am grateful for friends who are brave enough and crazy enough to take four children (their two plus our two) to an amusement park for the morning. They survived and came back to tell the tale.
Today I am grateful for a lovely walk and Knus playtime in Delftse Hout with Una and Nestor. I have written before that Una needs time and space to really express her feelings and nothing better than long walks in the forest with nothing else to “do”. With each “big” talk she amazes me with how deep her thoughts are, how genuinely empathetic she is. It is bittersweet, I am so proud of her but at the same time it is an undeniable proof that she is growing up, sometimes too fast for me to follow.
Today I am grateful for a nice evening out with friends in celebration of Mark’s birthday.
Today I am grateful that Una got her swimming diploma B and for her first music concert. She has been in quite a shy phase lately, so it was so surprising and funny to watch her willingly be the first one in the group to run to the microphone, sing loudly and just be silly. She has matured so much in the past few months, and while we have been tremendously enjoying being able to talk to her about complex situations that are not black or white, it is also bittersweet, and we are so happy when she lets herself be a silly and carefree six years old.
Today I am grateful for living in a country (city?) where seeing a homeless person is a very, very rare occurrence.
Today I am grateful for a relaxing afternoon with friends. Sun, bbq sweet corn, wine and cupcakes – what more would one need on a Sunday afternoon?
