Overheard while baking peanut butter cookies…

{Lazy rainy Sunday afternoon… Una and I are baking peanut butter cookies. Nestor is fussing and no matter what Mark does, and he tries pretty much everything,  is of little help}

Mark: Nestor, calm down already or I will put you in the oven.

Una {whining on top of her voice}: Noooo, doooon’t, it is too hot there!! Not my bwwoooother!!!

Mark {enjoying messing around with her a bit too  much}: OK, then I will put mama in the oven…

Una {completely calm}: No, she is too big.

{please do not call child protection service on us, no one ended up in the oven}

Super Daddy

In our family Friday is papa dag, meaning Mark stays home with Una and Nestor. For the next few months I will be working from home on Thursdays and Fridays so I get to see what their Fridays are like. This afternoon the neighbours’ little girl joined the chaos since her mum fell of her bicycle and hurt her leg. So Mark is looking after a 3.5 year old, a 3.5 months old and a 4 year old. Last time I checked they were all alive and smiling. Did I marry well or what?

The sweet baby smell. The soft silky hair. The sounds made while drifting off to sleep in  my arms. The sleeping grin. I close my eyes and try to take it all in and burn it in my memory. I know all too well that the next time I open my eyes my baby will be three and a half years old.
